Shed hunting is in the air

By Gildas Paradis | February 04, 2012

It is so warm it feels alot like spring shed hunting season. It has been melting everyday, which makes me wonder if this kind of weather triggers deer to drop antlers sooner?

There is another theory that cold miserable conditons will cause antlers to drop off early as a side effect of poor wintering, health and nutrition. This makes sense as in nature as cruel and difficult as ours, any break would be welcome especially losing a big heavy cold conducting bone on top of their head. carrying that around burns energy and makes foraging more difficult.

I am going to check some of my "spots"' to see if they are dropping early with the warm weather or not.

I personally am enjoying this mild winter. Our dike construction is mostly complete and our main lodge is in the finishing stages.

Everyday we are getting closer to normal business operations and the lifestyle we enjoy, as the check list shrinks and the jobs get finished.
