Looking for Deer sheds

Spent Sunday looking for deer sheds and didn't find any. I don't think they all dropped yet because there have been a few bucks seen still sporting their head gear. I did find some excellent places to keep looking however with tons of tracks where they are feeding. We have had lots of snow lately too which would have covered up any antlers, but with the mild winter i think they are a couple week from dropping off. I am going to spend more time looking for sheds this year as we left a few bucks walk this fall and i want to find their treasured antlers. As spring appraoches it will give way to lots of information from the past fall and hopefully some antlers.
Stay tuned,

Metis Day

We celebrated Manitoba's newest provincial holiday, Louis Reil day (see history here http://library2.usask.ca/northwest/background/riel.htm)

The Fort Dauphin Museum held a family day and we took our kids to see what life was like during the days of the fur trade. Metis is part of our heritage also so we have a close connection to this holiday.
They had many artifacts on display and games for the kids such as snowshoeing, tug of war and wood carrying time trials. The weather was beautiful with very warm temps and sun shine, snow taffy on a stick and beaver tails for snacks, very fun and educational day. The day wrapped up with a horse drawn wagon ride through town. Not as outdoorsish as we are used to but it was a gentle intro to many city kids who don't know a beaver fur from an alley cat.
